Government on Tuesday declared to close the road connecting Jahangir Chowk to Rambagh in view of the piling expected to be started over the ongoing construction of the flyover in the area.

Talking to KNS, Chief Engineer R&B Kashmir D K Razdan said that the road connecting Jahangir Chowk with the Rambagh area shall be closed due to the ongoing work and that for more than two and half months, vehicular traffic shall not be allowed to ply on the route.

He said that the target set by the government over the completion of the fly over in the area is June 2016 and the work over it is going on in full swing. “I had a meeting with the ERA officials and it has been intimated that vehicular traffic will hamper the work over the fly over. Therefore, within four to five days, the traffic will not be allowed to ply through Jahangir Chowk to Rambagh.”

The chief engineer while commenting over the macadamization work on roads in the Valley said the process has already been started and till September the department has set the target to macadamize one thousand Kilometres. “For us, macadamizing the flood affected roads is the priority and what we have ensured is to have a proper quality control system in vogue to ensure better results on ground. On rough roads, we can have 75 mm thick macadam and the roads with the better condition, the department can go for 50 mm thick macadamization,” Razdan said.

The Chief Engineer also nullified the reports that the scarcity of funds is affecting the ongoing macadamization in Kashmir. “To my knowledge, there is no such issue. We have funds and the macadamization is going on in full progress. There are some contractors who are flouting the rumours of such nature,” Razdan added.
