Ruling out any serious threat to the Pakistani prisoners languishing in various jails of the state, Director General Prisons K Rajindera Saturday said that security was being reviewed in all jails where Pakistani prisoners are lodged.

“We held a review meeting for the security of prisoners in the aftermath of attack. We have taken all the steps to ensure their security,” Rajendra told a local news agency, KNS.

The DG Prisons who was accompanied by State Home Secretary held the review meeting in Jammu in the aftermath of attack on Pakistani prisoner Sonaullah in Kotbalwal jail in Jammu on Friday.

“This is an individual case. We don’t see any serious threat to Pak prisoners in our jails,” Rajindera said added that the security in and around jails where Pakistan nationals are lodged is being reviewed and if the administration felt, the security vigil would be beefed up in these jails.

“We have suspended the Jail superintendent and an inquiry has also been initiated into the incident,” he said and added the situation was under control.

The DGP Prisons told KNS that the number of Pak nationals lodged in Jammu and Kashmir Jails was very less as such the threat perception was also minimal.

He termed the rumors of death of Sonaullah in PGI Chandigarh as baseless.
