SRINAGAR: Director General of Police (DGP) R R Swain Wednesday sanctioned Rs 2.20 crore as Special Welfare Relief in favour of dependents, legal heirs of 10 deceased police personnel.

As per a statement, a police spokesman said that the DGP has also sanctioned over Rs 1.51 crore welfare loans in favour of 119 serving police personnel to meet their immediate financial needs and Rs 2 lakh financial assistance in favour of Nok of 02 martyred Police officials.

The special welfare relief of Rs 22 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of dependents/legal heirs of deceased police personnel SI Ab Hamid, ASI Sukh Dev Singh, HC Mohammad Yaseen, HC Ichpaul Sing, HC Mohd Sadeeq, HC Kamal Kishore SgCt Daya Kishan, SgCt Kuldeep Singh, Ct Bilal Ahmad and follower Altaf Hussain who passed away while in service.

Out of this amount (special welfare relief) Rs 1 lakh each has already been paid to the families/NoK for performing the last rites as immediate relief by the PHQ through their concerned units/Districts. The financial assistance has been given out of the Contributory Police Welfare Fund.

A welfare loan of Rs 42 lakh has been sanctioned in favour of 42 police personnel for self-marriage. While Rs 1.50 lakh each has been sanctioned in favour of 63 police personnel to meet the expenses of the marriage of their sons/daughters. 11 police personnel have been provided welfare loans of Rs 1.5 lakh each for higher/professional education of their wards.

While Rs 1 lakh has been sanctioned in favour of one police personal for the technical education of his son. Rs 50 thousand each has been sanctioned in favour of two police personnel for circumcision/Akhandpath of his ward.

The welfare loan sanctioned to the Police personnel is refundable and is recovered in monthly instalments from their salaries without any interest. Besides, the DGP has also sanctioned Rs 1 lakh each in favour of Nok of martyr Ct Mushtaq Ahmad & Ct Raj Kumar as financial assistance for the marriage ceremonies of their daughters. (KNO)
