The Kashmir Skills and Simulation Centre (KSCC) established by the Directorate of Health Services (DHSK), at the Regional Institute of Health and Family (RIHFW) at Dhobiwan, Tangmarg has initiated a program for enhancing the capabilities of health professionals working in various hospitals of the DHSK by means of Activity Based Learning Process.
“Under a GoI Program,” a statement issued by DHSK said, “an Obstetric Skill Lab has been set up and trainings will be conducted with the help of simulators and mannequins that have been established in the facility.”
The health department informed that by means of repetitive and scenario based trainings the Centre aims at improving the capabilities of the staff to deal with normal as well as complicated obstetrical cases in the institutions of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir.
The statement said that in the first instance staff 15 nurses and ANM’s from Block Tangmarg, Magam and Kunzar are attending the training which started today.
According to the Principal, RIHFW a “unique feature” of the program is the provision of post training, follow up assessment visits by the trainers to the Hospitals where the trained staff is working, to review the impact of the training and by focusing on each trainee individually a mechanism will be created for continuous corrective interventions which will ultimately benefit the patients attending the hospitals.
On the launch of the Program the Director Health Services Kashmir, Dr Saleem-ur-Rehman said that the Directorate has been making multiple efforts at contemporizing the training mechanisms for in-service Doctors and Paramedics since 2012 and the establishment of the Skill and Simulation Centre at Dhobhiwan has been an important landmark in this effort.
At this facility trainings in Basic Life Support, Trauma Management, Cardiac Life Support, Obstetrical Abilities Enhancement and others have been conducted regularly on advanced Simulators like Mega-code Kelly, Sim-Man, Sim-Mom and others.
“This has improved the capacities of the healthcare personnel to deliver better services. A further enhancement of the Skill and Simulation Centre is under process and a comprehensive training process based on identified skill gaps will be continued at the centre,” he added.
