SRINAGAR: National Conference (NC) leader Salman Sagar on Thursday ruled out the possibility of a rebellion within the party, saying concerns raised by some legislators and senior leaders were minor differences that would be addressed through discussions with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah.
Speaking to reporters, Sagar said Omar Abdullah had begun meeting party members who had expressed dissatisfaction and that their grievances would be taken up through direct interaction.
Rejecting suggestions that the party leadership had deliberately delayed reaching out to the disgruntled members, Sagar said the Chief Minister had been occupied with a busy schedule and was now engaging with those who had raised concerns.
He described senior NC leaders Mubarak Gul, Farooq Shah, Jamshed Qaiser Lone and Ajaz Jan as the “tall leaders” and the “spirit of the National Conference”, asserting that their grievances should not be interpreted as signs of a revolt within the party.
Sagar maintained that the leadership remained in contact with members who had expressed dissatisfaction and was confident that the differences would be resolved once they met the Chief Minister.
Taking a dig at those anticipating a split in the ruling party, he said people who were “taking leisure and seeking pleasure” would be disappointed after the leaders held discussions with Omar Abdullah.
He argued that differences of opinion were natural in any organisation and should not be equated with rebellion, drawing a parallel with disagreements within a family that did not necessarily lead to a breakdown of relationships.
