Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir Baseer Ahmed Khan, today said that there was a need to introduce latest prosthetic, orthotic equipment to help people with disabilities (PwDs).

DIPR observes International Day of Persons with Disabilities

The Divisional Commissioner was speaking at a function organized by the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in collaboration with a NGO Hope Disability Centre, under the theme “The future is accessible” here at the DIPR’s auditorium.

The Div Com said that to create a vibrant society it was important to ensure every member is well taken care of.

Highlighting the accessibility factors, the Div Com said it is important that all government and non-government institutions especially schools, colleges, universities, social welfare offices take proper measures for convenience of PwDs, including the constructions of ramps in government and non-government institutions ATMs and footpaths to enable them to move freely.

The Div Com informed that the Social Welfare department has various programmes under pipeline at block and Tehsil levels.

Earlier, colourful cultural programmes and drawing competition were presented by the specially-abled children.

The Div Com while interacting with the children participating in drawing competition appreciated their talent. He also inspected the prosthetic and orthotic stall set up by the NGO.
