The Director said this while inaugurating a training-cum-awareness camp on Conopy management organized by Horticulture Department Kashmir at Harwan.

Chief Horticulture officer Srinagar, Officers of the department and orchardists were present on the occasion.

During the day long awareness programme, the officers of Horticulture department briefed the farmers about various new technologies besides providing technical knowhow about pruning, hoeing, spray schedules and grafting techniques.

The Director said that the programme is being organized across the Valley to aware people about various departmental schemes initiated by the Government.

Stressing for plantation of high yield varieties, the Director said that high yield apple plants verities can produce eight times more crop.

Highlighting the potential of nursery plantation in Kashmir, the director said that nursery plantation is a huge local market and can give employment to a large number youth.

The Director stressed on developing proper infrastructure for storage of fruit and other facilities for growers.

He explained in detail the incentives available on Area Expansion Programme, creation of water resources which will boost the economy of the Valley.

On the occasion, various printed material like spray schedule and fertilizer application schedule were also distributed among farmers.
