Terming the disallowing of discussion in Rajya Sabha by the Government on the deteriorating situation in Gaza and West Bank area of Palestine as unfortunate, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha stated that this has established beyond any shred of doubt NDA Government’s insensitive towards the ongoing situation in West Asia.

According to a statement issued to KNS, while speaking in Rajya Sabha, he expressed deep concern on the recent escalation of tensions between Palestine and Israel which has led to killings of hundreds of innocent children, women and aged, besides injuring thousands and destroying properties worth billions-both public and private.

Azad said that entire globe is worried about the situation in Palestine, and that historically and consistently India has sympathised with the cause of oppressed people of Palestine. He further stated that NDA government’s inappropriate response is intriguing and disappointing on this grave humanitarian issue.

Azad said that peace in West Asia is of foremost importance to India as millions of Indians are working both as skilled and unskilled workers in West Asia.  “Indians working in Gulf region contribute to the growth and development of that region and sent hefty remittances back to our country, only to support millions of people”, said Azad. It is pertinent to mention that a stalemate continues in Rajya Sabha for the last two days on this issue due to the reluctance of NDA Government to have a discussion on the humanitarian crisis of Palestine.
