SRINAGAR

National Conference Tuesday lashed out against the silence of PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti over the “unabated attack, persecution and arrests of youth in Kashmir prior to PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Kashmir”.

“How does Mehbooba Mufti justify the silence of PDP and her own? When out of power she had a lot to say and promise,” NC’s valley spokesperson said adding, “the youth are angry and the manifestation of this anger later on resulted in the killing of an innocent 22 year old Gowhar Dar at Zainakote HMT by forces.”

The spokesperson called MP Mehbooba Mufti “a chronic turncoat” saying, “she changes her statement and loyalties to suit her personal interests.”

An NC statement stated, “the silent and covert subjugation and tyranny of PDP can very well be understood in the context of history.”

Taking a dig at CM Mufti Sayeed, the statement said, “what is PDP doing about AFSPA? Kashmir and the whole world knows how Mufti Sayed gifted Kashmir with AFSPA and unleashed a reign of killings during his tenure as Union Home Minister. Today it is the same person unleashing tyrannies on Kashmir youth in the grab of security.”

The spokesperson said, “the government needs to acknowledge and take responsibility for the youth who have been maimed and disabled for life.” “It is not about scoring political points but we are worried at the way situation in Kashmir is developing into. The youth have essentially become the target of security agencies. It is a shame that PDP who had coined the slogan ‘PDP is youth’ have forgotten everything after coming to power.”

“PDP, to impress their bosses in Delhi risked the lives of hundreds of youth, many of whom are now crying their misfortune in state hospitals. On the promises of jobs, they pushed the youth to join the Modi rally in Srinagar and made them victims of the wrath of subjugated and persecuted youth. Will Mehbooba’s bosses gift  the life to the Kulgam youth who is battling for life at SKIMS or will she return the eye of the man who lost it while he was made to travel through barricaded and garrisoned city,” the statement said.

Demanding release of “innocent youth lodged in various police stations across Kashmir on the eve of Modi’s Kashmir visit”, the spokesperson said, “PDP believes in playing political gimmicks and creating political drama.”
