Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language Tuesday organized a condolence meeting at K L Sehgal Hall in memory of late Ved Bhasin, renowned editor who passed away last week.

Chief Information Commissioner J&K, G R Sofi chaired the condolence meeting.

Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Language Dr Aziz Hajni and other prominent Journalists, writers and poets including Dr Shujaat Bukhari, Khalid Hussain, Prthipal Singh Betabh, Kursheed Qazmi, Dr Agni Shekar, Dr Javaid Rahi, Sunil Kumar, Sham Talib, Amin Banhali, and Dr Nirmal Vinod were present in the condolence meeting, an official statement said this evening.

While paying rich tributes to Late Ved Bhasin, Chief Information Commissioner described him as a distinguished and an iconic journalist, a par excellence human being, who always worked tirelessly for the freedom of press in the State. He said Late Bhasin was a pioneer and a legend in the field of journalism in Jammu and Kashmir who maintained highest standards and ethics in journalism.

Shujaat Bukhari threw light on the life and immense contributions of late Bhasin in the field of Journalism. He said that late Bhasin was not only a reputed journalist but a social leader who believed in secularism, stood for his principles and devoted his entire life for the cause of journalism in the State.

Secretary, Culture Academy Dr Aziz Hajni while paying rich tributes to Late Bhasin said that he was a man of principles and impeccable character. He announced that Culture Academy shall be shortly organizing a 2-Day seminar on the life and contribution of late Ved Bhasin.

Several speakers also threw light on the life and contribution of late Bhasin and prayed rich tributes to late Ved Bhasin. Special prayer was also held on the occasion and two minute silence was observed to pay homage to the renowned journalist.
