Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan, on Friday convened a meeting to review the progress of dredging work of river Jhelum and its flood spill channel.

Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sopore, Chief Engineer Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC), SP (North), Deputy Director Planning, Chief Conservator Forests Representatives from Reach Dredging Limited Company and other concerned officials were present in the meeting, an official statement said.

“Irrigation & Flood Control Engineers informed the meeting that Reach Dredging Limited Company have dredged 3 lakh cubic meters out of 4.05 lakh cubic meters target in Sopore and in Baramulla town 1.50 lakh cubic meters against 5.10 lakh cubic meters. In Peerzoo & Panzinara, company has dredged 3.30 lakh cubic meters out of 7 lakh cubic meters target,” the statement said.

The Divisional Commissioner directed I&FC engineers to provide all possible support to the Company so that the target of dredging is achieved in a time bound manner.

Khan also directed Joint Director Forest protection to provide Dyke (space for dumping material) at PC depot to the dredging company for facilitating the dredging work.

He asked, as per statement, the Reach Dredging Limited Company to work round the clock on a war footing so that so that the dredging work is completed at the earliest and carrying capacity of the river and its spill channels are increased.
