SRINAGAR: To maintain the momentum of developmental works for Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) projects, the Divisional Commissioner (Div Com) of Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, conducted a late-night city tour to inspect the physical progress of various beautification and redevelopment projects.
Div Com was accompanied by the Commissioner of SMC & CEO Smart City Srinagar, officers of R&B, I&FC, PHE, KPDCL, and other relevant departments.
He conducted on-site visits to Lal Chowk, Batamaloo, Qamarwari, Foreshore Road, Boulevard Road, TRC, Lal Chowk, and other locations.
While assessing the progress made in the development of footpaths, roads, and drainage systems at all these locations, the Div Com urged the relevant authorities to expedite the execution of developmental works in order to give the city a new look.
He instructed the prompt relocation of utilities of PDD from roads to the sidelines to streamline traffic movement. Additionally, he gave instructions to ensure the functionality of all streetlights, replacement of rusted poles, and the rectification of visually polluting wires hanging haphazardly.
He also directed the macadamization of roads where the work has been completed to facilitate smoother traffic flow.
The Div Com personally evaluated the developmental requirements of Batamaloo and the redevelopment of roads.
He requested the concerned officers to submit a detailed report on completed works as well as the pending portions with expected completion dates.
Similarly, the Div Com urged agencies to complete the ongoing projects in Lal Chowk, which serves as the city center and represents the city’s developmental aspect, within the shortest possible time by employing a multiple-shift construction model.
He emphasised that due to the significant influx of tourists in Lal Chowk, it needs to be fully functional immediately.
Moreover, the Div Com assessed the progress of cycle track construction. He urged the authorities to encourage young people to adopt cycling as a regular means of transportation, which would help alleviate traffic congestion on the roads.
Later, he visited Foreshore Road and Boulevard Road, where he received a briefing on the achieved milestones in terms of development, as well as the ongoing redevelopment of pavements and roads. (KNO)
