SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council of India (ESC) in the Electronic and IT Sector, in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.

The MoU was signed by Sandeep Narula, Chairman of ESC, and Javid Ahmad Tenga, President of KCCI.

Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha congratulated the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Electronics and Computer Software Export Promotion Council of India on their partnership to mentor and promote electronics and software units based in Kashmir. The collaboration aims to organise buyer-seller meets, share experiences, best practices, and knowledge in the sector.

“This MoU is a significant milestone for J&K UT and will greatly benefit the Electronic and IT Sector in Jammu Kashmir. Participation in trade fairs, access to the global market, and advisory services will add value to grassroots innovation and assist entrepreneurs in commercialising their technologies,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor stated that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the reforms introduced in recent years have brought transformative changes in the electronics, communication, and technology sectors in Jammu Kashmir.

“In a short period of time, J&K UT has achieved several milestones in digitalisation to keep pace with the competition, create an infrastructure base for budding IT entrepreneurs, help the rapidly growing economy, and bring efficiency and transparency in public service delivery,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

“The rapid change in the IT sector provides an exciting opportunity to transform J&K UT and make it an IT hub of North India. Comprehensive cooperation, creativity, and enterprise of all stakeholders, combined with the rich pool of human resources, can energise our resolve and bring us closer to this goal,” he added.

During the MoU signing ceremony, the Lieutenant Governor also highlighted how new-age technologies can revolutionise agriculture and allied sectors in Jammu Kashmir.

“Agritech is another area that offers immense opportunities for startups and IT entrepreneurs in J&K. Internet of Things and automation for sensor-based smart agriculture, research and development ecosystem, and technology-enabled agri-informatics will create more jobs and facilitate the establishment of new enterprises,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

He further added that the growth of the technology revolution and the recent interest shown by foreign companies to tap into the skilled manpower base of Jammu Kashmir will enable the youth to lead Jammu Kashmir towards a new era of growth and technological innovation.

“With the help of ESC India and their vast global network, we can not only build on the gains of ongoing industrialisation but also unleash the creativity and enterprise latent in our young entrepreneurs and startup founders,” the Lieutenant Governor emphasised.

The Lieutenant Governor instructed the Industries and Commerce Department, Information Technology Department, and other stakeholders to utilise the full potential of the Software Technology Park at Rangreth. He also emphasised the need to provide support to young entrepreneurs, startups, and small companies and promote public-private partnerships in the IT sector.

Present at the MoU signing ceremony were Dr Arun Kumar Mehta, Chief Secretary; Sandeep Narula, Chairman of ESC; Javid Ahmad Tenga, President of KCCI; Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner/Secretary of Industries and Commerce Department; Veer Sagar, Vice Chairman of ESC; Gurmeet Singh, Executive Director of ESC; office bearers of ESC and KCCI; senior officers from civil administration and police; and members of the business community.
