Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Baseer Ahmad Khan on Thursday chaired a high level meeting to review the arrangements being put in place for observance of Muharram days in Kashmir, Leh and Kargil.

MLA Zadibal Syed Abid Hussain Ansari, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, IG Traffic, Joint Commissioner SMC, RTO Kashmir, SSP Traffic, DGM JKSRTC, Chief Engineer UEED, Principal Govt Medical College, SE’s R&B & PDD, Dy Controller LMD, Assistant Director Health, Deputy Medical Superintendent SKIMS, SE Hydraulic, Director ULBK, Deputy Director Planning, Representatives of Anjuman-i-Shar-i-Shia & Hussaini Welfare Committee and other concerned officers were present in the meeting whereas all Deputy Commissioners of the valley including Leh & Kargil participated in the meeting through video conferencing.

Divisional Commissioner stressed on the officers to extend all facilities to the people especially in the Shia dominated areas.

He directed the concerned Departments to ensure un-interrupted power and drinking water supply, availability of essential commodities like food grains, sugar, LPG, ensuring adequate quantity of firewood for distribution and availability of ambulances, first aid kits, doctors and para medical staff during the Muharram days.

The Divisional Commissioner also directed State Road Transport Corporation and Regional Transport Officer Kashmir to ensure deployment of adequate number of buses and availability of proper transport facilities at the designated locations. Meeting was informed that RTO will also draw a route plan for Shia dominated areas for hassle free movement of transport during Muharram days.

He also instructed the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to ensure cleanliness around Imambaras and directed to replace damaged street lights.

Baseer Khan directed the Roads & Buildings Department to ensure repair of all roads leading to Imambaras.

All Deputy Commissioners informed the meeting about the measures taken by their respective district administrations in connection with the observance of Muharram.

On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner directed all Deputy Commissioners to establish Muharram Joint Control Rooms at all district headquarters for the redressal of public grievances at the earliest publish the contact numbers of these Control rooms in print and electronic media.

He also directed all Deputy Commissioners to hold such type of meeting immediately in their respective districts and personally visit the Imambaras in their respective districts to assess the ground realities. The DCs will also constitute teams to assess the arrangements and will prepare action plan and send the copy of the action plan to the MLA Zadibal and Divisional Commissioner office within 5 days for the smooth observation of Muharram days.

On the occasion, the Divisional Commissioner asked the Divisional Administration to make all the necessary arrangements for smooth conduct of all the remembrance functions and procession related to Muharram.
