Doc, Staffer Turns Positive at SDH Chrar, Admin Held Routine OPD

SRINAGAR: After a female patient turned positive at the sub-district hospital at Chrar e Sharief, the doctor, who operated her for the cesarian, and a storekeeper have turned positive but the hospital administration held a routine OPD from Monday putting thousands of patients at risk.

“We held a routine OPD today where we saw patients routinely. But as we came to know that our senior gynaecologist and a storekeeper have turned positive, trust me I am shivering what will happen to all those patients who had come in the OPD today. These patients are already vulnerable because of their pregnancy,” said a doctor wishing anonymity.

On Friday, the maternity service at SDH Chrar e Shrief was stopped for two days and all the staff was put under strict home quarantine when a lady turned positive after she delivered a baby in the hospital. Her reports had come positive after she was discharged from the hospital. But two days later, on Monday the hospital administration called back all of its staff, who had come in contact with the positive patient and started the OPD in routine, said a hospital source.

On Monday, a storekeeper of the hospital tested positive and on Tuesday, a senior gynaecologist tested positive.

“It was due to the negligence of the senior doctor that a positive patient was operated when she should have been referred to some COVID designated hospital. The senior consultant callously admitted her without seeing her COVID report which put the life of other hospital staffers, and patients at risk,” said a hospital source.

On Saturday, the Block Medical Officer Dr Mastoora told Kashmir Life that all the staff, including theatre and post-operative staff, that had come in contact with the positive lady have been sent under strict home quarantine.

“We have been told the test reports of the rest of the staffers are awaited as their samples have been sent to Pune for testing,” informed a hospital source.

Kashmir Life tried to contact the director of health services Kashmir for alleged negligence at the hospital but he was busy and did not call back.
