The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) Thursday in an important judgment has asked Doctors to desist themselves from going on rampant and illegal strikes.
A two member bench of SHRC comprised of Javid Kawosa and Rafiq Fida sought the response of the government and the Commissioner Secretary to Government Health and Medical Education Education Department on the complaint filed by social activist M.M.Shuja.
The case owes it origin to a strike call given by Junior Doctors Association in October, 2009 in which some 80 patients allegedly lost their lives in various hospitals of the State. SHRC has termed the doctors strike as unethical and unwarranted and have asked the government to implement the recommendations made by the Hon’ble Court in this regard.
The Commission in its judgment has said that there is no need to add anything as the Hon’ble Division Bench of the High Court has already passed directions in this regard and has already termed the strike calls of doctors as unethical and illegal.
“The Commission strictly adhere to the judgment passed by the Hon’ble High Court and do not want to add any recommendation other than what has been held by the Hon’ble High Court in the matter. Rather the same be construed as recommendation from the undersigned as well, with the hope that the Commissioner Secretary to Government Health and Medical Education Education Department will abide by the assurances extended before the Hon’ble High Court and the Junior Doctors, who are an important basic pedestal in our medical care system will understand the obligations of their noble profession of serving humanity and desist from taking such childish decisions which cost the lives of innocent patients, who after God repose full trust in them,” the Commission states adding that the trust between the public and the doctors must not be shaken.
