SRINAGAR: The government on Monday advised the general public not to pay heed to any unverified phone calls seeking any information or vital details from them.

The Directorate of Food Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, in a statement issued to the press, said the Department of FCS&CA JK doesn’t seek any information from the rationees through telephonic calls and the beneficiaries have to approach their concerned Fair Price Dealers only for the ongoing e-KYC verification. “The process of e-KYC verification doesn’t involve sharing of OTP/ Aadhar number by the ration card holder.”

“It has come to the notice of the department that taking undue advantage of ongoing drive undertaken by the department, as per the instructions of the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Gol, to capture e-KYC credentials of ration card holders, some unscrupulous elements are trying to telephonically obtain some vital information from the rationees, beneficiaries, citing attractive and luring benefits,” it added.

The statement further reads, “It is understood that some innocent, gullible beneficiaries may fall prey to such traps, causing them some financial or other losses. With a view to averting the occurrence of any such incident, the General Public at large and the ration card holders in particular are informed through the medium of this notice to not pay any heed to such unverified telephonic calls and immediately report the same to the police.”
