SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday claimed to have solved a theft case at the tourist destination of Doodhpathri in Budgam district by arresting an accused involved in stealing valuables from vehicles parked in the area.
Police said the case came to light on July 5 when a team from Police Station Khansahib apprehended a suspect while he was allegedly attempting to steal valuables from tourist vehicles parked at Doodhpathri.
Following the incident, an FIR (No. 120/2026) was registered at Police Station Khansahib and an investigation was launched.
During the course of investigation, the accused was identified as Adil Ahmad, son of Gh Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Kanoora, Khansahib.
Police said that during questioning, the accused confessed to his involvement in the case and also revealed his role in another theft incident at Doodhpathri, where cash and a mobile phone were stolen from a tourist.
Acting on his disclosure, a police team recovered stolen items, including cash worth Rs 1,05,500, a smartphone and earbuds from his possession.
Officials said further investigation is underway to recover the remaining stolen items and ascertain his possible involvement in other similar incidents.
Police said they remain committed to ensuring the safety and security of tourists and local residents across Jammu and Kashmir.
