Noted writer, poet and scholar Dr Abdul Aziz Parray (Hajni) took over as Secretary of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages this afternoon. The order to this effect was issued by the General Administration Department (GAD).

According to a statement issued to KNS, Dr Hajini was placed at Serial No. 1 by the Search Committee framed by the previous government for taking over as the Secretary of the academy. However, the previous government had not taken a decision for appointing the new Secretary of the academy for almost a year. The decision to appoint Dr Hajini as the Secretary was taken by Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, who is also the President of the academy following which the GAD issued the order. Dr Hajni was presently working as Assistant Professor in the Center for Sheikh-ul-Alam Studies of the University of Kashmir. Noted Kashmiri language campaigner and Sahitya Akademi award winner, Dr Hajini was one of three frontrunners whose names were considered for the post but Hajini piped others to be appointed the head of the academy. Dr Aziz hajni has started his literary carrier from a literary organization Halqa-Adab Hajin Sonawari. The organization proved to be a launching pad for this literary stalwart who has showed his worth not only at the state level but at the national and international levels as well. Dr Hajni is the President of Adbee Markaz Kamraz, a federation of 24 registered literary and cultural organizations of Kashmir and has worked for the promotion of Kashmiri language and campaigned for it vigorously. Dr Hajini did his PhD on Development of Kashmiri Prose During 20th century.

Born as Abdul Aziz Parrey, he hails from Hajin Sonawari Kashmir wherefrom he gets his pen name.  He has held several positions in academic and literary circles including the post of the Deputy Director Academic, Kashmir division; Research Officer State Institute Of Education, Srinagar; OSD Cultural Education, Department of School Education Government of J&K; Coordinator Sheikh-Ul-Alam Chair, Center for Sheikh-Ul-Alam Studies, University Of Kashmir. He was twice recommended by the high level search committee for the post of Secretary J&K Academy of Art Culture and Languages in year 2011 and 2014.

Dr Hajini is the first Gold Medalist in Kashmiri language from the University of Kashmir. He is author of several books in Kashmiri language and has done translations of many books from English to Kashmiri. Besides being the Shahitya Akademy award winner, he was also conferred New Delhi Award for best translation in Kashmiri for the year 2013. Dr Hajini was the Convener of Kashmiri Advisory Board Sahitya Akademi, New Delhi from 2008 to 2012.He is also the Member on Expert Committee for Granting Senior and Junior Fellowships in Literature, Ministry of Culture Government of India from 2009.

Dr Hajini was also the Executive Board Member of Sahitya Akademi from 2008to 2012. He is also an empanelled referee for Nobel Prize in literature, empanelled referee for Jnanpith award for Kashmiri writers, life member of Indian Institute of Public Administration New Delhi, Member Advisory Panel of National Book Trust of India from 2012and member of the high level committee of Kashmiri scholars constituted by the State legislature for visualizing the scope of classical language status for Kashmiri. Dr Hajini was also the member of the Sahitya Akademi’s Kashmiri Advisory Board from 1997 to 2002. He was twice elected President of Adbee Markaz Kamraz and is the member Advisory Committee of J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Languages, Srinagar.

Dr Hajini was thrice elected as the General Secretary of the Adbi Markaz Kamraz between 1998 and June 2008.He was also the President Kashmir Theater Association from 1998 to 2000. Dr Hajini is the empanelled jury member for Sahitya Akademi Awards. He has participated in seminars, symposia and conferences world over including Canada, USA and United Arab Emirates.

Dr Hajini is also Editor of the Alamdaar, – the English and Kashmiri language yearly journal of Center for Sheikh-Ul-Aalam Studies, Kashmir University; Editor, Noor, the News Letter of Center for Shiekh-Ul-Aalam Studies, Kashmir University and Patronand Editor of Prav, yearly Journal of Adbi Markaz Kamraz.
