A youth was injured after cops fired pellet guns on demonstrators, protesting against alleged desecration of Jamia Masjid and use of force on Kashmir University students in Old City area of Srinagar on Saturday.

Eyewitness told GNS that today afternoon a youth identified as Sahil Ahmad son of Zahoor Ahmad of Nowhatta was injured after cops fired pellet guns near the Jamia Masjid in Nowhatta to disperse the protestors.

“He received pellets all over his body and was shifted to SMHS,” an eyewitness said.

Pertinently, State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has observed that law enforcing agencies were bound to strictly follow Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and adhere to the use of non-lethal methods of mob control in order to prevent casualties.

“It must be the endeavour of law enforcing agencies to use minimum force, which will not cause any casualties or serious injuries,” the Commission said.
