Famous cardiologist and ex- Director, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar (SKIMS), Dr Sheikh Jalal-ul-Din succumbed to his injuries in a New Delhi hospital, Saturday morning.
Confirming the death of Jalal, Director SKIMS, Dr Shawkat Zargar told Kashmir Life, “Yes, I came to know early morning about it.”
Dr Jalal’s vehicle was attacked by unidentified gunmen in Pampore, July 18, outside his residence.
Two cops guarding Jalal, were killed and Dr Jalal-u-Din was injured in the attack.
Jalal, 64 was shifted to SKIMS, in a critical condition and after going through so many sensitive Surgeries; his family shifted him to New Delhi for advanced treatment.
Dr Jalal was hailing from Pampore, the nearest town to Srinagar.
He was known world over for his experience and knowledge in the field of Medical Science.
Known Cardiologist, was hit by bullets in his left eye and abdomen.
Dr Jallal ul din, MD, DM in cardiology was vice president of National Board of Examinations, New Delhi. The board, parallel to Medical Council of India, awards specialized degrees in various medicinal fields. Serving in SKIMS, he headed Cardiology department for over one and a half decade before taking over its reins where he retired after almost two and a half years.
Close associate and personal doctor of late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah and late Begum Abdullah, Dr Jallal ul din was known for the works he under took for patients care at SKIMS.
As Kashmir turmoil had its effect on SKIMS as well, Dr Jallal ul din, hard-master-task as his colleagues call him, took many important steps to overcome the problems.
During his tenure as Director SKIMS, much important equipments like the CT scan, the MRI machines were purchased. The emergency medical fair price shop in SKIMS was also started by him.
