SRINAGAR: Mirza Afzal Beg’s son, Dr Aijaz Ahmad Beg is no more. He was the brother of politician Dr Mehboob Beg, the incumbent Secretary-General of the PDP.

Reports said that Dr Aijaz was living at the family’s Sarnal residence in Anantnag. He suffered a heart attack earlier during the day. He is survived by two daughters. Dr Aijaz had served the health department throughout his career and retired as Chief Medical Officer.

The death was condoled by the political class.

“Apart from being the son of one of the main architects of modern Jammu and Kashmir Late Mirza Mohammad Afzal Beg Sahab, Dr Aijaz was a pious soul and a great professional who devoted his life to working for people in general and marginalized sections of the society in particular,” Mehbooba Mufti said in a statement. “May Allah grant Jannah to Aijaz sahib and give strength to his family to bear this irreparable loss.”

The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference President Dr Farooq Abdullah and Vice President Omar Abdullah have also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of Dr Beg.

“I received the news of passing away of Aijaz Sahib with heartbreak and sorrow. It is indeed a colossal loss for Beg family. The deceased was a dedicated, compassionate and thoughtful medical doctor. A God-conscious soul, Ajaz sb was a genial and humble person as well. My heartfelt thoughts go out to the bereaved family in this hour of sorrow. Sharing in their sorrow, I also pray for eternal peace to the deceased,” Dr Abdullah said.

Omar added: “The news of passing away of Aijaz Sahib has saddened me. I pray to Almighty to bestow the deceased with the highest echelons in Jannat and forbearance to the bereaved to bear the inconsolable loss.  I share the grief of the bereaved family.”

Meanwhile, the two leaders of the NC have also expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of the sister of Party’s Publicity Secretary Mir GM Saqi. In their condolence message, Dr Farooq and Omar Abdullah expressed unison with the grief-stricken family particularly Saqi Sahib and prayed for peace to the departed in the highest stations of the Jannat.
