In wake of the “witch hunt” of students, two PDP leaders Saturday met Kashmiri students studying in Jawahar Lal Nehru University (JNU) and enquired about their safety.
Sources said that on directions of PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, former FinMin Dr Haseeb A Drabu, and Dr Amitabh Mattoo met the students and discussed with them the present situation inside the JNU campus. Dr Drabu is alumnus of JNU while Dr Mattoo held a chair at the JNU.
Notably, a controversy erupted after two events were held commemorating death anniversary of Afzal Guru in JNU and Press Club of India. Prof SAR Geelani and JNUSU president, Kanhaiya Kumar, are behind bars under sedition.
The duo held an hour long meeting with Kashmiri students including vice-president of JNU students union, Shehla Rashid, and discussed the present crisis and the safety of Kashmiri students with them.
Sources added that the PDP leaders are meeting Union Home Minister to ensure safety of Kashmiri students.
