Finance Minister Dr Haseeb A Drabu on Saturday told the state legislative council that lawmakers should make the question hour a revealing exercise. He said it must force the government to reveal things on policy and governance that otherwise are not in public domain.
“Question hour belonged to an era in which the governments would not reveal many things,” Drabu said in the Legislative Council on Saturday. “But we have moved away from that era and now we have RTI which will fetch the same information that lawmakers seek in the house.”
Drabu said the lawmakers can utilize the RTI to get the basic information that they are routinely seeking. The question hour can be utilized for something bigger and better. “Lawmakers should ask questions on policy and governance,” he said.
Drabu intervention was suo moto. He later introduced all his bills and got them passed. There was no opposition to any of the bills that had already been passed by the Legislative Assembly.
