SRINAGAR: Drass Freezes at -23.5°C as Cold Wave Grips Kashmir, Jammu and Ladakh. SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Valley and surrounding regions experienced a biting chill as temperatures plunged further into sub-zero territory, with several areas recording freezing conditions last night. According to Kashmir Weather, the coldest spot in the Kashmir region was Sonamarg, where the mercury dipped to -10.4°C, followed closely by Gulmarg at -9.8°C and Pahalgam at -8.2°C. Larnoo also recorded a severe chill at -5.0°C. Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of -1.0°C, while other notable readings included -2.4°C in Qazigund, -3.1°C in Anantnag, and -3.6°C in Kulgam.

In the Jammu region, temperatures were milder but still marked by wintry conditions. Jammu city recorded 7.0°C, while Kathua was the warmest at 9.2°C. Bhaderwah experienced near-freezing conditions at 0.1°C, and Padder stood out with a frigid -5.5°C. Other notable minimum temperatures included 2.5°C in Batote, 2.8°C in Banihal, and 6.5°C in Katra.

In Ladakh, the cold wave was even more intense, with Drass emerging as the coldest location across the region at a bone-chilling -23.5°C. Kargil recorded a minimum of -13.5°C, and Leh was slightly warmer at -13.0°C.

The extreme cold across the region continues to pose challenges for daily life while adding to the landscape’s natural beauty.
