Married Couple Among Several Arrested in Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Anti-Drug Crackdown

   

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their anti-drug operations, arresting several individuals, including a married couple, and seizing substantial quantities of narcotics across the region. The crackdown also included the attachment of a property valued at Rs 1.3 crore linked to drug trafficking.

In Srinagar, a married couple was apprehended during a routine checkpoint at Zaldagar near the Syed Mansoor shrine. The duo, identified as Waseem Ahmad Sheikh and his wife Uzma Wasim of Hamdania Colony Bemina, were travelling in an auto-rickshaw when a search uncovered a significant quantity of narcotics. Investigations revealed that the couple used their rickshaw and family cover to distribute drugs among the youth.

In another operation in Srinagar, police arrested a fraudster, Sadiq Hassan Chaloo of Shaheedgunj, who impersonated a government officer and defrauded a woman of Rs 2 lakh by falsely promising to secure the release of her husband detained under the PIT NDPS Act. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.

In Anantnag, authorities attached a double-storey house belonging to Khurshid Ahmad Dar of Satkipora under the NDPS Act. The property, valued at approximately Rs 1.3 crore, was identified as being linked to proceeds from drug trafficking. Dar is implicated in a narcotics case registered at Police Station Srigufwara.

Meanwhile, police in Ganderbal arrested Imtiyaz Ahmad Mir of Benhama Lar during a checkpoint operation. A search led to the recovery of 3.81 kilograms of bhang patri and 32 grams of charas. In Pulwama, a vehicle driven by Hilal Ahmed Wani of Zadoora was intercepted, and officers recovered 12.650 kilograms of charas powder. The vehicle was seized, and the driver was arrested.

Additional arrests were made in Srinagar, including that of Waseem Ahmad Bafanda of Dangerpora Mallabagh Hazratbal, who was caught at Sazgaripora with contraband and cash. Subsequent investigations led to the apprehension of Waqar Ahmad Duloo of Ellahi Bagh and Mohammad Rafiq Pattoo of Shah Mohalla Ahmad Nagar, along with further recoveries.
