SRINAGAR: A man from Ladakh died, while four persons, including two tourists from Maharashtra, were injured in a road accident at Rail Gund in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Thursday, officials said.
The accident occurred following a collision between two cars at Rail Gund, Kangan, prompting an immediate response from police and locals.
Reports said that soon after receiving information, the police rushed to the spot and launched a rescue operation.
“All the injured were immediately shifted to the Primary Health Centre Gund for treatment,” locals said, adding that two of the injured were later referred to Sub-District Hospital Kangan.
“One of the drivers, identified as Muhammad Ali, son of Ahmad Hussain from Ladakh, succumbed to his injuries.”
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and initiated proceedings to ascertain the cause of the accident. Initial reports suggest a head-on collision due to overspeeding, though officials said the exact circumstances are under investigation.
Among the four injured, two are from Maharashtra. (KNT)
