SRINAGAR: Police in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district arrested a drug peddler and recovered a contraband substance during a checkpoint operation under the jurisdiction of Police Post Nagbal, officials said on Friday.
According to police, personnel from Police Post Nagbal stopped a suspicious person at a checkpoint set up at Dignibal near the Old Water Supply Scheme, Bakura. During the search, Bhung Patri powder, a ganja-like substance, was recovered from his possession.
The accused has been identified as Abrar Ahmad Parray, son of Mohd Ismail Parray, a resident of Nagbal, Ganderbal. He was arrested on the spot and taken to the police station, where he remains in custody.
Police said a case under relevant provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act has been registered at Police Station Ganderbal, and further investigation is underway.
Officials reiterated that the police remain committed to tackling the drug menace and appealed to the public to extend cooperation in ongoing efforts against narcotics.
