SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested a drug peddler from Rakh Shilwat area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district.

The police spokesman in a statement said: “Continuing its drive against drug menace, Bandipora Police apprehended a drug peddler and seized 1.4 kilograms of charas from his possession.”

“During a routine Naka checking at Rakh Shilwat, a police party of Police Station Sumbal headed by SHO Sumbal Parvaiz Ahmed under the supervision of SDPO Sumbal Sheikh Tahir Amin intercepted a person Adil Ahmed Hajam son of Abdul Samad Hajam resident of Rakh Shilwat. Upon his checking, 1.4 kilograms of charas was recovered from his possession. The contraband substance was seized and the person was taken into custody,” the spokesman said.

Consequently, an FIR No. 54/2018 under section 8/20 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Sumbal and investigation set into motion.
