SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir have detained a drug peddler under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act.
The accused, Jamsheed Maqbool Wani, son of Mohammad Maqbool Wani and resident of Wani Mohalla Safapora, was identified as a repeat offender deeply involved in the illegal drug trade, particularly targeting and exploiting youth in the region. Acting on formal detention orders issued by the competent authority, police apprehended the accused and lodged him at District Jail Udhampur.
The police stated that Wani’s consistent involvement in drug trafficking posed a serious threat to public safety and social stability, particularly among vulnerable sections of society. His detention under the PIT NDPS Act is part of the ongoing anti-narcotics campaign aimed at dismantling drug networks operating in Jammu and Kashmir.
Citizens have been encouraged to report any suspicious activity or drug-related information to the nearest police station. “Each tip-off plays a crucial role in building a safer, drug-free society,” a police spokesperson said, adding that strict legal action will be taken against all individuals involved in the illegal narcotics trade.
