In a communique, the DSEJ stated that in 2023, it was emphasised that to improve academic standards within the department, lecturers should be actively involved in teaching 9th, 10th, and 12th-grade classes. Additionally, principals and headmasters were instructed to be part of the daily timetable and teach at least two classes per day in their subject of expertise.

“Accordingly, all Chief Education Officers are requested to submit the Action Taken Report within a week,” the communique reads.

In 2023, the School Education Department mandated that principals and headmasters of government schools participate in teaching students in addition to managing administrative duties.

Previously, most principals and headmasters in government-run schools primarily handled administrative and academic oversight. However, under the new directive, they are now required to teach at least two classes daily.

The government explained that these directives were issued to enhance the academic process and respond to public demand for improved teaching quality by experienced educators.

“It is impressed upon the principals and headmasters to be part of the daily timetable and teach at least two classes daily in their subject of interest,” the government said. (KNO)
