SRINAGAR: Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan Party has demanded the immediate removal Jammu and Kashmir Public University Bill.

According to the statement, the meeting was convened by Chowdhary Lal Singh, the chairman of the Party and was attended by all the officer bearers of the party along with prominent citizens of Jammu.

“If all the Universities of J and K have already been established under the acts duly passed by State Assemblies, then clubbing of all the Universities into a single Act raises questions on the intentions of the Bureaucrats and Lieutenant General Manoj Sinha,” said Choudhary Lal Singh in a statement.

Chowdhary Lal Singh call the bill another attack on the regional identity by BJP as it did by allowing outsiders to vote in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

He also said that the LG government, which is a proxy government of Bhartiya Janta Party has been issuing controversial orders and notifications that are dangerous for the demographic as well as political health of Jammu.

Talking particularly about Mata Vaishno Devi University, Katra and Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri, Chowdhary Lal Singh said that bureaucratic interference into the functioning of these two Universities will cause irreparable damage to the aspirations of local population because both these prominent Universities have been created by the religious Trusts of Jammu Province.

Chairman of DSSP urged Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to immediately withdraw the bill failing which Dogra Swabhimaan Sagathan Party will take to roads and bring the Union Territory to a standstill.

“The Public University Bill 2022 is a very dangerous and unprecedented Bill and will be suicidal for the academic health of Jammu and Kashmir” said Dr Hari Dutt Shishu, General Secretary of Dogra Swabhimaan Sangathan Party.

While addressing in the meeting, Dr Hari Dutt Shishu observed that the bill seems to have been drafted in a hurry without the application of mind.

“The Bill”, he said, “snatches away the academic as well as administrative autonomy of the Universities and will serve a death blow to the intellectual environment of the region”.

The party members expressed shock over the government’s thoughtless and careless manner of drafting the bill, something which will almost kill the oldest universities of the Union territories of Jammu and Kashmir.

Dr Hari Dutt Shishu particularly criticized the provisions of the bill which mandates Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission to handle the recruitment process of the Universities. It is pertinent to mention here that Dr Hari Dutt Shishu is the alumni of University of Jammu and former President, Jammu University Research Scholars Association (JURSA) and is well versed with the functioning of University system.

Dr Shishu also said that DSSP will be submitting a memorandum for withdrawal of the Bill to Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, through the Vice Chancellor, University of Jammu.
