SRINAGAR: A resident of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has alleged that he was duped of money by an agent from Rafiabad on the promise of securing him a job in Dubai.
Speaking to a local news channel, Fayaz alleged that he paid Rs 1.10 lakh to the agent after being assured of employment in Dubai. He said the agent subsequently provided him with an agreement letter detailing the promised job and salary.
However, after reaching Dubai and reporting to the location where he was expected to work, Fayaz said he found that the job and remuneration were different from what had been promised to him in Kashmir.
He further alleged that he was provided accommodation for only two days before being asked to make his own arrangements. As a result, he said, he had to meet his living expenses for nearly a month.
Fayaz said he repeatedly contacted the agent and sought fulfilment of the commitments made to him. According to him, he informed the agent that the employment he had received was different from the job offered in Kashmir and that the salary was also lower than the amount promised.
He said his family subsequently had to lend him money to meet his expenses and eventually facilitate his return from Dubai.
Fayaz claimed that his total financial loss, including the Rs 1.10 lakh paid to the agent and the expenses incurred during his stay in Dubai, amounted to around Rs 2 lakh to Rs 2.50 lakh.
He alleged that the agent is now not responding to his calls or communications. Fayaz also claimed that during inquiries about the agent, he learnt that other people had allegedly faced similar fraud.
Fayaz has sought police action against the agent, including his arrest, and demanded recovery of the money paid to him as well as the expenses he incurred while in Dubai.
