Traffic on Saturday on all major roads of district Doda, including 110-Km long Batote-Kishtwar highway was suspended for 3rd consecutive day due to landslides caused by persistent rains.

The district administration also ordered closure of all the educational institutions for third day today due to bad weather conditions.

“All the educational institutions including private schools have been ordered to shut for the day as the weather is creating havoc since last three days and it’s not advisable to keep educational institutions open under these circumstances,” an official said.

Life is paralysed in this hilly district as all the roads are closed since last three days, resulting in very thin attendance in government offices. Schools and colleges have also been closed and several essential commodities have started disappearing from the market.

SSP Doda told Kashmir Life that the administration is trying its best but continuous shooting stones at numerous places on Batote-Thatri stretch of highway is badly hampering the restoration work. We will try to restore traffic as soon the weather improves.
