The activists of Dukhtaran-i-Millat (DeM) Wednesday protested against the re-arrest of their chairperson Asiya Andrabi.

Over two dozen activists of the DeM (daughters of the faith) held protests here to demand the release of Asiya, who was arrested at 2:00 am on November 18 from her Soura residence and is currently lodged in women’s police station at Rambagh.

“From August, this year Baaji (Asiya Andrabi) has been arrested on numerous occasions. 6 FIRs were lodged against her in 22 days in September. An open court in September this year quashed all the detention orders however, before entering home she was arrested again,” Nahida Nasreen, Asiya’s deputy said.

“On November 2, Asiya was arrested and released on 10th November. However, on 13th November late in the night she was again arrested and released on 15th November. Now, again she has been arrested without any arrest warrant in the wee hours of November 18.”

“Why doesn’t government say why Asiya is being arrested again and again? This is sheer injustice and encroachment upon human rights,” she said.

Nahida said since the inception of PDP government, which is being “run from Nagpur”, the “atrocities against Kashmiris have increased manifold”. And “Jungle Raj” has been unleashed in the Valley.

The DeM activists also denounced the arrest spree ahead of Mirwaiz’s joint meet and termed it “unreasonable”.

“The political space has been shrunk. We are not even allowed to meet,” the DeM activists said.
