An earthquake measuring 6.8 on the richter scale hit Afghanistan on Friday. Tremors were also felt in North India including New Delhi and Kashmir.

An official of the Met Department Kashmir the earthquake was felt at 5:12 pm.

The epicentre of the quake was in Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, 246 km northeast of Kabul, according to India Meteorological Department (IMD).

The earthquake occurred at a depth of around 190 kilometres after 5 pm, IMD added. Tremors of earthquake felt in various parts of Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh at 5.13 pm, reports quoted an IMD official as having said.

There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property due to the quake.
