SRINAGAR: Deputy Commissioner Anantnag Khalid Jahangir was awarded by the Election Commission of India (ECI) for showing exemplary management skills during last Lok Sabha elections.

Khalid Jahangir is among the five Deputy Commissioners in India who were selected for Best Electoral Practices Awards, 2019 by the ECI.

The award was conferred upon Khalid Jahangir on Saturday by President of India Ram Nath Kovind at the national function of the National Voters’ organized today at Zorawar Auditorium, Menekshaw Centre, Delhi Cantonment.

Khalid Jahangir was posted as DC Anantnag in February 2019 after his illustrious tenure as DC at the frontier district of Kupwara.
Anantnag Lok Sabha constituency in April witnessed smooth polling, where it was held in three legs, amidst tight security measures.
During his time at Kupwara, major development projects like railway line and medical college were approved for the district.
Kupwara witnessed a quantum jump in the national ranking of developmental indexes from 108 to 7th in seven months during his tenure. He received appreciation from NITI Ayog and also saw the visit of Chief Executive Officer NITI Ayog Amitabh Kant in October 2018 to the district.

The district has made rapid progress in all indicators particularly health. Congrats!,” Kant tweeted then.
In another tweet, Kant said: “Wonderful to see electricity reaching every single household after 71 years of independence in far-flung #aspirationaldistrict of Kupwara in Kashmir. Great work under Saubhagya in mission mode. This is bordering POK & huge challenges have been overcome.”
The 1999-batch Kashmir Administrative Service officer, Jahangir has worked at various important posts in J&K administration.
