Official sources told Kashmir Life that the fire erupted during room to room scanning of the premises and the operation is still going on. The fire erupted from third floor.
The sources said the para-troopers had successful scanning and secured two floors of the building and faced serious resistance in the third floor. “It was in the effort to secure the third floor that a soldier was killed,” one official said.
The official said that ground, first and the second floors are secured and the soldiers have taken over the control.
The operation that was launched after an attack on CRPF, the EDI encounter has led to five persons. These include two each from CRPF and Army besides a civilian. Many others are injured and admitted to the army hospital in the Badami Bagh.
The operation, source said, will take more time. Locals living around the EDI say the building is smoldering.
