All educational institutions remained closed and examinations were postponed on Thursday in the Kashmir valley after Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) had called for a complete shutdown against the killing of four civilians by government forces during an encounter and clashes in Khudwani village of Kulgam district.

An army man was also killed and other others injured during the encounter at Khudwani Kulgam on Wednesday.

Officials said that all educational institutions, including schools, will remain closed in the valley as a precautionary measure following massive protests in majority Government Degree Colleges (GDC), Higher Secondary Schools (HSS) and universities, UNI reported.

Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL), comprising Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik, have called for a strike.

The District Administration of almost all districts has issued separate orders closing the educational institutions.

Pertinently, four civilians were killed and  50 were injured during the clashes with government forces at Khudani in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
