SRINAGAR: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha engaged with citizens who had filed complaints on JKIGRAMS during “LG’s Mulaqaat” – Live Public Grievance Hearing programme at the Civil Secretariat.

Interacting with the people, concerned Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police through Video Conferencing, the Lieutenant Governor assessed the action taken on the grievances received from the citizens.

“The administration represents the aspirations of all citizens and every section of our vibrant society. Timely delivery of services, prompt and effective resolution of grievances form the core of the administration’s development initiatives,” said the Lieutenant Governor.

The Lieutenant Governor directed the Deputy Commissioners to engage constructively with citizens, prioritise the concerns of the poor and needy, and resolve all issues in a transparent manner.

“We also seek the participation of residents for the maintenance of parks and other public properties. We are committed to providing a better quality of life for our citizens, and community participation will play a key role in the cleanliness of parks and public spaces,” he added.

The Lieutenant Governor also strongly addressed the issue of fake complaints on JKIGRAMS.

This practice needs to be stopped. The platform is meant to provide hassle-free public services and to identify any deficiencies to achieve the objective of people-centric governance. The Lieutenant Governor directed the officials to sensitise and encourage people to file genuine grievances through public outreach programmes for more transparent, accountable, and citizen-friendly governance.

In response to a complaint from Mohd Afzal Bhat from Bandipora regarding a dysfunctional well in his locality at Odina Sonawari, the Lieutenant Governor instructed the concerned Chief Engineer to make alternative arrangements to provide sufficient water supply to the residents of the affected area until the new well becomes functional.

Regarding the grievance about the incomplete building of the Government Girls School Dab Ganderbal, the Deputy Commissioner informed the Lieutenant Governor that the school has been relocated to a new building, and funds have been released to ensure the availability of sanitation facilities and installation of fences.

Somraj from Jammu drew the Lieutenant Governor’s attention to the issue of reinstalling hand pumps in the Bhagwati Nagar area. The Lieutenant Governor requested details on the issue and instructed the Deputy Commissioner to take effective measures to resolve it as soon as possible.

Regarding the grievance from Sh Irfan Ali from Poonch about the dilapidated condition of the road in his village Kangra Galhuta Mendhar, the Principal Secretary, Public Works (R&B), briefed the Lieutenant Governor that a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the road has been prepared and work will commence once all the official procedures are completed.

Later, the Lieutenant Governor chaired a meeting to review the arrangements made by District Administrations for the Eid-ul-Adha festival and the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

Traffic is a major issue, particularly in Ramban, Anantnag, and Udhampur, with Ramban being the most vulnerable area. The Lieutenant Governor emphasised the need for a comprehensive traffic plan to ensure smooth traffic movement during the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.

The Deputy Commissioner and SSP of Ramban briefed the chair on the condition of critical stretches and the contingency routes being identified to divert the traffic.

The IGP Traffic also informed the chair that bottlenecks have been identified and viable solutions are being explored to facilitate smooth traffic movement during the yatra period.

Ms Rehana Batul, Commissioner/Secretary, Public Grievances, conducted the proceedings of the LG’s Mulaqaat.

Present during the interaction, either in person or through virtual mode, were R K Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department; Dr Mandeep Kumar Bhandari, Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor; Administrative Secretaries; Divisional Commissioners; Deputy Commissioners; SSPs; HoDs; and other senior officers.
