SRINAGAR: Eid-ul-Adha is being observed across Kashmir on Wednesday, with thousands of worshippers gathering at mosques and Eidgahs across the Valley to offer special prayers commemorating Prophet Ibrahim’s sacrifice and devotion to God.
The largest congregation is witnessed at the Hazratbal Shrine in Srinagar, where thousands of devotees assemble to participate in Eid prayers.
Officials said the celebrations are passing off peacefully across the Valley, with no reports of any untoward incident.
Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah extended greetings to the Muslim community on the occasion, while leaders of various political parties also conveyed Eid wishes to the people.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference president Farooq Abdullah and vice-president and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah offered Eid-ul-Adha prayers in Srinagar. PDP president Mehbooba Mufti, accompanied by her daughter, also offered Eid prayers at the Hazratbal Shrine.
In accordance with the religious tradition associated with the festival, thousands of sheep, goats and other animals are being sacrificed across the Valley.
Large congregations are witnessed at Muslim places of worship across Kashmir, except at the historic Jamia Masjid in old Srinagar and the Eidgah, where prayers are not being held after authorities declined permission to the Anjuman Auqaf Jamia Masjid to organise the congregations.
