SRINAGAR: Eight tourists were safely evacuated after sudden gusty winds left them stranded in the middle of Dal Lake and Nigeen Lake in Srinagar and Manasbal Lake in Ganderbal on Thursday, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) said.
The SDRF said its Quick Response Teams (QRTs) stationed at Nehru Park, Nigeen Lake and Manasbal Lake immediately responded to the situation after strong winds affected conditions across the water bodies.
The rescue teams reached the stranded tourists and safely brought them back to shore. No casualties were reported in the incidents.
The SDRF said the prompt response by its personnel helped ensure the safe evacuation of the tourists amid the sudden deterioration in conditions on the lakes.
The force maintains QRTs at key water bodies to respond to emergencies involving tourists and others, particularly during boating activities and sudden changes in weather.
