A 45-year-old woman sustained injuries after armies of India and Pakistan exchanged heavy firing along Line of Control (LoC) in Balakote sector of Poonch district on Saturday evening.

Reports said Indo-Pak armies exchanged heavy shelling with mortars along LoC in Balakote sector this evening.

They said few shells landed near the civilian population resulting in injuries to a woman.

An officer said that the Pakistani army resorted ceasefire violation and targeted the forward posts of the Indian Army.

“However the Indian army retaliated heavily triggering of exchange of heavy motor shells,” he said. The officer said that the woman was injured in the shelling and has been rescued from the area by a police team led by SI Showket Amin Khan to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Block medical officer Mendhar Dr Parvaiz Ahmad told GNS that injured woman has been rescued from the area and is undergoing treatment. BMO identified the injured as Saleema Begum wife of Abdul Majeed.

Meanwhile, confirming it, DIG Poonch Range Vivek Gupta told news agency GNS that police and health teams have been deputed to the area to rescue the civilians.
