SRINAGAR: An encounter has broken out in south Kashmir early during the day, police said.

Though the complete details are yet to emerge, reports said the counterinsurgents units had launched a cordon and search operation at Vailoo belt on basis of some inputs about the militant presence. This actually led to the ‘contact’ and the operation began. Apart from Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF and Rashtriya Rifles are part of the operation. Some visual footage available on social media shows gun-rattling, possibly from both sides.

The locality is on the main high way connecting Kashmir with Chenab Valley through Kishtwar.
