Srinagar:  An encounter that started between the suspected militants and army, paramilitary and police in Shopian’s Chillipora, Sugan area late Friday night was called off today morning after “nothing” was found in the cordoned area.

The militants who reportedly threw a grenade and opened fire on army men besieging the locality managed to escape as the operation prolonged for night due to poor visibility in the deep dark.

Army’s 55 RR and Special Operations Group of J&K police had laid cordon after the specific input about hiding of local militants in the area, police sources said.

Intermediate gun shots were heard for entire night, reports and locals said.

Moreover, besides installing the floodlights at the spot , drone cameras were also used to navigate the militants.

In the morning clashes also erupted after people early today started assembling around the encounter site and soon started pelting stones on the forces, reports said.

The cordon was lifted in the morning without any collateral damage, reports quoted a senior police official.
