SRINAGAR: The cordon in a Sopore village has eventually triggered an encounter between counter-insurgent grid and the militants. Both sides are firing at each other, police said.

Police said they had received information about militant presence at Pazalpora and immediately a cordon was laid. Around midnight it led to a formal contact. The holed up militants have lobbed grenades towards the police.

“So far, both sides are safe, no casualties,” one official said. “Firing is going on.” He said they have no idea what is the number of militants who are holed up, who they are and which they group they belong to.

Pazalpora falls in Rafiabad belt.
