SRINAGAR

The entire Mendhar area in the Poonch sector along the Line of Control (LoC) witnessed heavy exchange of firing between Indian and Pakistani troops Friday.

Small arms, grenades and rocket propelling grenades were being used by both the sides since 7 AM.

Defence sources said that it was major ceasefire violation from Pakistan side and the Indian Army retaliated only after heavy firing from across the LoC. “No casualties have been reported so far,” they added.

The attack took place just after two IED explosions took place in BG sector. One Army man was killed and six others were injured including a Major in the IED blasts on Thursday.

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also confirmed the brewing situation along the LoC and tweeted, “Significant ceasefire violation in Rajouri and Poonch with reports of some shells having landed in civilian areas. Some livestock loss.”
