SRINAGAR: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) Kashmir of Crime Branch Jammu Kashmir has filed two separate chargesheets against a Kupwara resident in cases involving alleged cheating, impersonation, forgery and fraudulent collection of money from people seeking government and other jobs.
The chargesheets against Abdul Majeed Mir, son of Abdul Rahim Mir of Kalaroos Lishtiyal, Kupwara, were filed before the Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 13/2026 and FIR No. 10/2025, the Crime Branch Kashmir said in a handout.
In FIR No. 13/2026, registered under Sections 318(4), 336(3), 340(2) and 238 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the investigation allegedly established that Mir obtained Rs 2.10 lakh from a person on the promise of providing employment.
The Crime Branch said the accused allegedly used a forged appointment order purportedly issued by the Airports Authority of India to support the claim.
In the second case, FIR No. 10/2025, registered under Sections 419, 420, 467, 468, 471 and 201 of the Indian Penal Code, the investigation alleged that Mir impersonated a Duty Officer attached to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the agency, he used the identity to promise government jobs and land at SDA Colony, Bemina, and collected around Rs 60 lakh from people. The investigation further alleged that fake appointment and land-allotment letters were provided to the victims.
The Crime Branch said the chargesheets have been submitted to the court for judicial determination.
Officials said Mir is also involved in 15 separate criminal cases registered across the Kashmir Valley.
The EOW has urged members of the public to remain cautious when dealing with individuals offering jobs, land or other benefits in exchange for money. It has also advised people who believe they have been subjected to economic fraud to report such cases to SSP EOW Srinagar, Crime Branch J&K, Abdul Waheed Shah.
