Reiterating the commitment of the government to ensure equitable development of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh and provide accountable administration, the Deputy Chief Minister Saturday said that weeding out corruption and infusing transparency remains the priority of the present dispensation. He was speaking at August 15 function in Jammu’s MA Stadium.

He maintained, “it is neither an ideological nor political alliance but an alliance for good governance and development which aims to fulfil the aspirations of the people and strengthen the trust they have shown by giving a clear mandate.”

The Deputy Chief Minister said that various external forces are hell-bent to disturb the peace and tranquillity in the state and destabilize the present regime but he warned that all such nefarious designs will be thwarted and every effort will be made to reaffirm people’s faith in democracy.

Highlighting the achievements of the government the Deputy Chief Minister said that under the new NITI Ayog states finances have been readjusted and we are one of the first states in the country to align its budget to changes in the federal –fiscal structure. He said that a separate budget has been presented focusing on the power sector. He assured that a liberal funding from the centre and effective implementation of the schemes will ensure that the developmental projects are not stalled and that the state does not suffer.

The Deputy Chief Minister announced that 24×7 power supply will become a reality in the state during the present regime by launching power reforms.

Nirmal Singh said that the district development plan allocations were hiked significantly and a new structured scheme of financing has been introduced to carry forward the developmental spree in the state.

“Setting up of AIIMS each in Jammu and Kashmir is a landmark step to augment the health care system in the state,” maintained the Deputy Chief Minister and informed that directions have been issued to expedite the identification of the suitable land for this prestigious project. He also informed that the directions have been given to upgrade at-least two health institutions in each constituency. He also said that a new scheme has been launched by Union government “My Village, My World” under which every MLA has been asked to adopt one model school in their constituency and develop the school with every modern infrastructural facility.

Regarding setting up of Rs 3000 crore IIT project in Jammu, Dy CM said that 5000 kanals of land have been identified in Nagrota and work on the project will be started soon.

Deputy Chief Minister stressed that up-gradation of power infrastructure under the centrally sponsored will be taken up on priority and said that proper implementation of schemes will be ensured so that common masses can reap the benefit of these schemes. He reaffirmed that 24X7 power supply will be ensured to the people with the implementation of envisaged projects.

Regarding commissioning of the Baglihar Phase-II he said that testing process of the project has been started and it will be commissioned soon to augment availability of power in the state. He sought people’s cooperation in plugging power pilferage.

He said that improvement of road network have also been fast tracked with the sanctioning of eight new highway projects for the state.

“Developing Jammu region as an independent tourist destination will receive focused attention of BJP-PDP coalition government,” Dr Nirmal Singh said and added that every effort is being made to develop tourism infrastructure for increasing footfall in tourist destinations like Patnitop and Mantalai. He said it is important that we retain and divert the pilgrims of Vaishno Devi Shrine to other attractive destinations. Likewise adventure tourism will be promoted in other areas of Jammu by developing water sports activities in Baglihar Dam and Ranjit Sagar Dam. He said Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex is the greatest tangible heritage of Dogras which will be protected, preserved and turned into a showcase for the people of the country.

Deputy Chief Minister said that government is making strenuous efforts to boost heritage tourism in the state and work on Tawi Lake Project, Mubarak Mandi Heritage complex, Ropeway project will help promote tourism in the region.

Deputy Chief Minister said that the new recruitment policy has been framed and the concerned agencies have been asked to fast track the recruitment process adding that about 10000 posts will be filled in coming few months in various sectors and around 4000 vacancies of constables will be filled in the police department.

Seeking the cooperation of the general public in strengthening the initiatives of the government, the Deputy Chief Minister said that we have to work together for the development of the state.

Students from various educational institutions presented a colourful cultural programme based on patriotic theme on the occasion.

Deputy Chief Minister also felicitated the winner of President’s Bravery Award Vivek Kumar who saved two precious lines.
