Independent lawmaker Er Rasheed has urged Governor N N Vohra to make security agencies accountable and ensure that self-respect of the common man is not destroyed again and again.

Er Rasheed briefing media after meeting with Governor.

The spokesman in a statement said that while speaking during the high-level meeting chaired by the governor at Kupwara today Er Rasheed made it clear that situation can only improve if police and other agencies respect the people’s right to live with honor and dignity.

He said, “Unless police don’t change its behavior and give all especially youth respect, not much may change on the ground. Police can’t always justify humiliating youth and destroy their self-respect. No doubt the place of youth is in colleges and schools but if security agencies leave no stone unturned to drag them to police stations, how can things improve.”

Er Rasheed said during the meeting that govt. must fulfill the demand to probe the brutal murder of 12-year-old kid Omar Farooq of Gulgam through crime branch.

Er Rasheed appraised governor about the hardships being faced by people who travel Karnah valley.

He said: “It is strange that anyone travelling Karnah valley from this side of the state has to seek permission to travel, which is not only wastage of time but also irritating for anyone. The draconian practice has to go and it is an impediment to the development of Karnah valley as this illogical procedure to visit Karnah forces people not to visit the area.”
